Randy believes that when it comes to improving our quality of life and property values, the City of Athens should lead by
example.  Even during this latest push for citizen involvement in local beautification, the city was not living up to its own
standards.  With focused leadership, the city can make the maintenance and beautification of its own property a priority.
With the city leading the way locals, students, and landlords are more likely to follow suit.
The problems we have in the city with trash, litter, and noise are not because of “the students".  These issues become
problems when individuals, both long-term residents and students, do not respect the rights of others. Our elected leaders
must stop the us-vs.-them mentality, stop blaming “the students” and address anyone whose behavior is an issue.
Athens is the only city of its size in Ohio without building code inspections. While hiring another employee in tight
economic times might not be feasible, there is a viable solution other cities have employed to provide this valuable
safety compliance service.  We need to help homeowners and business owners investing in their properties protect
their investment by ensuring they've gotten what they've paid for.
Currently, enforcement is inconsistent and, much worse, ineffective. We need a year-in year-out, predictable but
aggressive enforcement policy which has teeth so those currently flouting our ordinances understand that there will be
consequences to their violations.
For the past five years Randy has worked for the National Business Incubation Association helping incubation programs
around the world help entrepreneurs.  Entrepreneurs create jobs and create wealth in a community by utilizing and
fostering the community's own creative spirit. Randy Morris has a passion for helping entrepreneurs.  Small business
creation, growth, and support in Athens will mean higher employment, less poverty and more revenue for the city.
Everyone everyone wins.  Have a look at this video for more on the importance of small business in a community like
Athens:
